Veterans Day

November 08 2017

Veterans Day falls annually on November 11th and it marks a day of remembrance and appreciation for those in the armed forces. It is a day to thank all veterans from all wars for their services.  It has been a national holiday since 1919, to mark the signing of a peace treaty from World War I.

Even at a young age, children understand that certain events are important and your child may be curious as to what this day is for.

It is also likely your child knows someone who has served in the military, from grandparents, aunts and uncles, teachers, and more. Allowing your child to attend Memorial Day events and services is a good way to introduce them to the honor and bravery of our military veterans.

You can also choose to teach them about this day in a more hands-on way. Consider ideas like mailing THANK YOU CARDS and creating care packages for military veterans who are on active duty, injured or retired.

Kids can also learn through songs for this special day or reading some kid-friendly books.

All of these are ways children can learn the importance of why we honor and remember the service of the many American veterans throughout history to present day.
