Is attending summer camp a good idea for preschoolers and kindergartners
April 14 2014
Many parents of preschool and kindergarten age children wonder if their children are too young to attend a summer camp. Perhaps the children would benefit more if they were older?
For many parents of young children, sending such a young child to camp may not seem like a good idea. However, young children can benefit greatly since camp can be a good environment for learning, exploring, playing, and growing in a safe environment.
Why is summer camp good for young children?
There are many reasons why sending young children to summer camp is a good idea. Attending a summer camp provides an opportunity for children to experience a new environment. At home children may be exposed to video games, television, and many other distractions. When at camp, they can connect with nature and spend time with children their own age.
Children often form friendships at camp that can last beyond the summer. This environment can be helpful for young children to learn social skills and how to interact with individuals of all ages. They can also learn valuable communication skills.
Attending Summer camp is a good way for young children to gain and build confidence. Being away from their parents, making new friends, and experiencing new activities all help the child gain confidence and independence throughout the summer. These are only a few of the reasons why sending your kindergartner or preschooler to summer camp can be a good idea.
