Kids 'R' Kids Pre-K Class Learns The Meaning of Pet Care And ResponsibilityFebruary 16 2011
With the help of the wonderful Horn Lake librarian - Mrs. Carson, the Reading Station was made complete with many topic related books. She also lent many stuffed animals for the classroom. The children were able to play various roles associated with caring for a pet: a groomer, veterinarian and trainer. Additional items were provided for the children such as food, bowls, brushes, blankets, vet smocks, and doctor kits. As a family project, the children shared pet pictures. They were displayed in the classroom.
The Pre-K class also had a collection drive for the Desoto Animal Shelter. They collected gently used pet items, pet food and toys. Ms. Monica from the shelter came to the school to speak with them about pet adoption. She brought her dog – Porkchop, and three adoptable kittens. The children were happy to donate their collected items.
With the help of families, teachers, and community helpers the students at Kids 'R' Kids #1 Mississippi learned Charles Darwin's idea: "The love for all living creatures is the most notable attribute of man."
